Journalist Timur Soykan will face a 1 million TL compensation lawsuit on December 12.

Soykan will be tried due to his report titled "550 million in loans from Halkbank to the mafia," which was published in BirGün newspaper.

Through RSF (Reporters Without Borders), Soykan drew attention to the increasing threats against journalism.

In his report regarding Halkbank, Soykan alleged that the bank provided large loans to individuals and groups linked to the mafia, and he faced a compensation lawsuit following this report.

The 1 million TL compensation lawsuit is seen as a reflection of the pressures on journalists in Turkey. Stating that this case is part of the threats against the right of journalists to report freely, Soykan made statements through RSF to draw attention to the issue.
