July 15 message from İmamoğlu: 'The nation showed it does not want tutelage, the government has placed politics under tutelage'
Imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu issued a statement on the 10th anniversary of July 15.
CHP presidential candidate and imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu shared a written statement via the "Presidential Candidate Office" social media account on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the July 15 coup attempt.
"OUR NATION SAID 'NO' TO TUTELAGE BY SHIELDING ITSELF WITH ITS BODIES"
"Ten years ago today, our country experienced one of the darkest nights in its history. A vile organization tried to turn this country's army against the nation with a major conspiracy. That night, the Turkish nation showed that it does not want any tutelage over those elected, by shielding itself against tanks and planes with its own bodies."
"THE GOVERNMENT HAS NOT ACCOUNTED FOR ITS RESPONSIBILITY"
Continuing his statement, the İBB Mayor criticized the current political power and management approach in harsh terms, stating that the government has not engaged in self-criticism regarding the processes that paved the way for the coup attempt:
"The government, on the other hand, has neither accounted for its responsibilities regarding this process nor made an effort to expand the space for democratic politics to ensure it never happens again."
"On the contrary, it has thoroughly placed politics under the tutelage of the judiciary and bureaucracy, and it is continuing at full speed on this path."
Concluding his message by commemorating the martyrs and veterans who sacrificed their lives on the night of the coup and emphasizing a historical republican principle, Ekrem İmamoğlu used the following expressions:
"SOVEREIGNTY BELONGS UNCONDITIONALLY TO THE NATION, AND IT ALWAYS WILL"
"I commemorate with mercy all our martyrs who gave their lives for this homeland on July 15. I also express my eternal gratitude to our veterans. Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation, and it will always remain so."
