Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announces new step regarding 'children dragged into crime', stating: 'There is discomfort regarding the sentences given'
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that a legislative regulation will be made that is sensitive to societal concerns regarding children dragged into crime. In his meeting with victim families, Gürlek stated that they would work to implement the legal regulation as soon as possible.
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that they will make a legislative regulation regarding children dragged into crime, taking societal sensitivities into account. Minister Gürlek met with victim families at the Sarıyer Judges' House, accompanied by AKP Istanbul Deputy and Chair of the Parliamentary Research Commission on Children Dragged into Crime, Müşerref Pervin Tuba Durgut.
MET WITH VICTIM FAMILIES
In his statement at the meeting, Minister Gürlek noted that many of the files he presided over involved victim families, and expressed that he would be in close cooperation on this issue. Furthermore, emphasizing that the concept of 'children dragged into crime' needs to be reorganized, Gürlek said, "Taking societal sensitivities into account, we will continue our work rapidly for the legal changes to be made on this matter."
Emphasizing that there is serious discomfort in society regarding children dragged into crime, Minister Gürlek stated that they would take steps to address these concerns. The Minister said that dimensions that disturb the public conscience have emerged regarding children's involvement in crime. Stating that penalties for children need to be made more deterrent, Gürlek noted that the process would move forward rapidly, saying, "We believe a change is needed in this regard."
VICTIM FAMILIES CAME TOGETHER
Taking the floor at the meeting, Chair of the Parliamentary Research Commission on Children Dragged into Crime, Müşerref Pervin Tuba Durgut, said that crimes involving individuals under the age of 18 deeply disturb the public conscience. Durgut stated that the commission established within the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) is comprehensively analyzing the reasons why children commit crimes and potential solutions.
Commission Chair Durgut emphasized that preventive and rehabilitative steps should be taken to protect children dragged into crime. Furthermore, stating that efforts to increase the deterrent effect of penalties are ongoing, Durgut expressed that Minister Gürlek is sensitive to the process.
Durgut stated that such meetings held for victim families are of great importance, saying, "It is very valuable for families to feel that the state hears them and stands by them while they are experiencing their pain and fighting for justice."
