Justice Minister Tunç makes statement regarding 'partial amnesty' claims

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made a statement regarding the claims about a 'partial amnesty' regulation reflected in the press.

The regulation, which would pave the way for those who committed crimes before July 31, 2023, to complete their remaining sentences outside of prison under probation, was met with backlash.

A statement regarding the 'partial amnesty' claims came from Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç.

Tunç said, "What is reflected in the press today is not an amnesty. Those who were in prison and could not benefit from the COVID law had benefited from it. But in terms of the date of the crime, those who committed crimes before those who were in prison could not benefit from this. They have a request regarding this matter. The discretion for this lies with the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. A regulation could be made here in terms of the principle of equality, but this is not an amnesty".
