Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç responds to the question 'How was Dilan Polat released?'
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç spoke about the release of Dilan Polat, who had been in prison for approximately 10 months on charges of money laundering and tax evasion and was recently released, as well as the arrest of Dilruba K. following a street interview.
Social media influencer and beauty center owner Dilan Polat, who entered prison on November 5 as part of an investigation opened for money laundering and tax evasion, has been released.
The release of Polat, who faces a potential 40-year prison sentence, and the fact that she will be tried without arrest, have sparked public debate.
YILMAZ TUNÇ'S STATEMENT ON DİLAN POLAT
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made statements regarding Polat's release process during a program he attended.
Speaking on the "Hakan Çelik ile Hafta Sonu" (Weekend with Hakan Çelik) program, Tunç also answered the question, "How was Dilan Polat released?"
"THERE ARE MASAK REPORTS, ANYONE WHO WANTS CAN ACCESS THE DOCUMENTS"
Stating that the investigation was conducted meticulously, Tunç said the following regarding the matter:
“Our prosecutors conducted this investigation meticulously. There is a decision made by the court within the framework of MASAK reports. It is not right to say 'Why was she released or why was she arrested' without having information about the content of the file. It is the independent and impartial judiciary that will evaluate this. Let us let the judiciary run its course and let us trust the Turkish judiciary. The parties have lawyers. The file is open to the public. There are also MASAK reports. The file is already open to the public. Anyone who wants can access the documents.”
WHY WAS DİLRUBA K. ARRESTED?
Minister Tunç responded to the question of why Dilruba Y., who was arrested and sent to prison after her remarks in a street interview, was detained.
"ARREST IS AN EXCEPTION, IT IS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE"
Minister Tunç stated, "Arrest is an exception, it is a precautionary measure. There are grounds for arrest. There are catalog crimes. Arrest does not happen immediately in every case. In some cases, there is a reaction as to why there was no arrest. It is the judge who decides on the arrest."
Stating that there is an attempt to spread propaganda by asking, "Are street interviews being banned?", Tunç said, "Why would street interviews be banned? There is no harm in individuals, media organizations, and those broadcasting on social media conducting interviews on the streets. If you are engaging in terrorist propaganda in that interview, if there is incitement to violence, or if there are expressions that constitute a crime, it is not a matter of banning street interviews, but rather the person using those expressions being put on trial." Upon being reminded of the criticisms regarding Dilan Polat's release, Tunç said, "It would not be correct to reach conclusions or make statements like 'Why was she released?' or 'Why was she arrested?' without having knowledge of the content of the file. Let us leave the judiciary alone here, let the judiciary function."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Dilruba Y., who was detained recently due to her remarks in a street interview regarding the access ban imposed on Instagram, was arrested by the court and sent to prison. An objection was filed against the detention of Dilruba Y., who is being tried on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility and insulting them" and "insulting the President."
