Kılıçdaroğlu had criticized: A notable message from Özgür Özel regarding the peace process
Speaking during the budget negotiations in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), CHP leader Özgür Özel stated that they would continue to support the commission established in Parliament as part of the second peace process, referred to as a 'Terror-Free Turkey.' Expressing that they would be involved in the process, Özel drew attention to Syria, stating, 'The Kurds in Syria being in democracy and peace is a great security for Turkey.'
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel spoke during the budget negotiations at the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).
In the final part of his speech, Özel gave messages regarding the second peace process, referred to as a 'Terror-Free Turkey.' The CHP had not provided members for the delegation the commission sent to İmralı. Following this, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had reacted to the decision not to go to İmralı, stating that the CHP should play an active role in the process.
Stating that they would continue to support the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission in the TBMM, Özel gave the message that they would be part of the process.
Özel spoke as follows:
“We will continue to contribute to the commission. We will be part of a sincere and serious process so that the peace hopes of this country are not sacrificed to the self-interest calculations of some. As the Republican People's Party, we object to the appointment of trustees. We say, ‘Let the ECHR rulings be implemented.’ We say, ‘Let the Constitutional Court rulings be implemented.’ We proposed a 29-article democratization package. We say, ‘Come, let us develop this together and put it into practice. Let this country win together.’
We defend the brotherhood and peace between Kurds and Turks in Turkey. We say, ‘From now on, instead of spending this money in these budgets on weapons, war, and counter-terrorism, let us spend it for the common future of both the Kurd and the Turk.’ For this reason, as long as the last Kurd does not say ‘I have a problem,’ there is a Kurdish issue. As long as the last Alevi does not say ‘I no longer have a problem,’ there is an issue for Alevis. We are ready and here to fight in every way for a future where all Kurds and Alevis feel as equal as Turks and Sunnis in a democratic struggle, and where they will claim ownership of this state.”
SYRIA REMARK: “THEY MUST HAVE CONSTITUTIONAL GUARANTEES”
Continuing his speech, Özel drew attention to Syria and, stating that constitutional rights should be granted to minorities living in Syria, spoke as follows:
“We want the Kurds, Arabs, Druze, and Turkmen in Syria, as well as the Alevis whom we have watched with our hearts in our mouths due to the treatment they have received in recent days, to have constitutional guarantees, to live together in Syria, for none of them to be oppressed or massacred, and for there to be democracy and peace in Syria as well.”
Indirectly emphasizing a possible military operation by the central Damascus administration towards the regions controlled by Kurds in Syria and Turkey's support, Özel continued as follows:
“The Kurds in Syria being in democracy, peace, and tranquility is a great security for Turkey. We want to live as neighbors in brotherhood with our brothers at our border. We do not want to play the roles assigned to us within the framework of certain plans and programs of the world's sovereign states in Turkey, in Syria, or in the Middle East; we do not want to have a role in someone else's game or be part of someone else's plan. We want our own plan, our own calculation, and our own great project of brotherhood and peace to bring peace, prosperity, and development to Turkey and the Middle East.
We are aware of the necessity of standing together, acting for the interests of this country, and taking risks against those who try to drag Turkey to very different places with certain calculations. We are here for a democratic Turkey where Turkey's unitary structure is protected, and equal citizenship is felt to the marrow by everyone in friendship and brotherhood. We are here as the founding will. We are here today as the country's main opposition party, the first party in the polls, and the ruling party of tomorrow.
We are here as the founding party of the country. We are here as the first party of the last elections, the first party in all polls, and the ruling party of tomorrow. We are not coming to do evil to anyone; we are coming to extend our hand to 86 million, to make peace when it is necessary to make peace, to fight together when it is necessary to fight together, to develop this country, to grow together, to win together, to share in brotherhood, and to live in brotherhood.”
