Kılıçdaroğlu issues 13-point call on July 15
In a message released for the 10th anniversary of the July 15 coup attempt, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu described July 15 as a "historical turning point." Emphasizing the protection of democracy and Republican values, Kılıçdaroğlu shared a 13-point proposal and called for political consensus.
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was brought to the CHP Chairmanship with a decision of absolute nullity, made a statement on his social media account on the 10th anniversary of the July 15 coup attempt.
Kılıçdaroğlu evaluated July 15 with the words, "It is a historical turning point that showed us all, through a painful experience, the great danger the Republic of Turkey has faced, the seriousness of the imperialist threat that wants to eliminate our democracy and constitutional order, and that our brotherhood is above all else."
Stating in his message that the foundation of democracy must be protected and Republican values must be upheld, Kılıçdaroğlu issued a 13-point call in this context.
In Kılıçdaroğlu's call, it was emphasized that an independent and impartial judiciary must be established, merit must be the basis in the state, the unitary and secular state structure must be protected, a transition to a strong parliamentary system must be made, free media must be supported, and the principles of the rule of law must not be compromised.
In one of the prominent points of the statement, the following expressions were included: "For the sake of the future of the state and the nation, political consensus and brotherhood must be established. We need a noble and national consensus, not a fight."
The full text of Kılıçdaroğlu's statement is as follows:
"July 15 is a historical turning point that showed us all, through a painful experience, the great danger the Republic of Turkey has faced, the seriousness of the imperialist threat that wants to eliminate our democracy and constitutional order, and that our brotherhood is above all else.
The damage caused to our country by parallel structures that rot the state and political institutions from within, and that tie loyalty to illegal centers by destroying merit, is the greatest threat to our independence.
The guarantee of our unitary state structure is our consciousness of a common destiny and an uncompromising democracy. It is the primary duty of us all to exalt our state with reason, merit, and justice; and to walk into the future as brothers under a single flag.
I thank every citizen who stood by our democracy and national unity against the coup attempt of the parallel structures under the command of imperialism, and I commemorate our July 15 martyrs with mercy, gratitude, and respect.
May their souls rest in peace, may their place be heaven.
In order not to lose the foundation of democracy and to protect the values of the Republic;
1-) A ban on politics should be imposed on barracks, places of worship, and courthouses; politics should not be allowed into the most sensitive bastions of the state.
2-) An independent and impartial judiciary must be established. Justice is the foundation of the state. The judiciary must remain bound only to conscience and the law.
3-) The unitary and secular state must be protected. Secularism, which is the guarantee of freedom of religion and conscience, is the cement of social peace.
4-) Merit must be established in the state. Entrusting the job to the competent and ending the distinction of "us versus them" is the first condition of a modern state.
5-) The founding values of the Republic must be upheld. The principles of the Republic are the guarantee of equality of opportunity and our unity.
6-) For the sake of the future of the state and the nation, political consensus and brotherhood must be established. We need a noble and national consensus, not a fight.
7-) A strong Parliamentary System is the guarantee of our democracy. The will and dignity of the Grand National Assembly are above all else.
8-) The voice of independent and free media, which is the breathing tube of democracy, must not be stifled.
9-) An education system that questions must be built. We must raise generations who do not rent out their minds; who are free in thought and free in conscience.
10-) Being able to self-criticize is a virtue. We must not repeat history by learning lessons from past mistakes.
11-) It is important to remedy the grievances caused by conspiracies. The rights and reputations of those who were wronged in the past must be restored.
12-) We must not deviate from the ground of law; while fighting against coup plotters and criminals, we must not deviate from justice and the law.
13-) The greatest truth that July 15 has taught us is this: The state cannot be surrendered to any structure, sect, group, or faction. The owner of the state is the nation; and the place where the national will is manifested is the Grand National Assembly.
With this awareness; it is our common responsibility to walk into the future by remaining within the law, expanding democracy, strengthening our Republic, and protecting our brotherhood."
