Kremlin: Putin to discuss bilateral relations with Turkey and the issue of Ukraine

Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Turkey, economic and trade relations between Russia and Turkey, as well as regional issues including Ukraine, will be discussed.

Peskov made statements to journalists in the capital, Moscow, regarding Putin's visit to Turkey, which is expected to take place this month.

"WE WILL ANNOUNCE IT WHEN THE TIME COMES"

Speaking about the possible date of the visit, Peskov said, "We will announce the date of the visit when the time comes."

Pointing out that a wide range of topics will be discussed during the visit, Peskov stated, "Each of these meetings is quite rich in terms of agenda. This is, of course, first and foremost about Russia-Turkey bilateral relations and our trade and economic cooperation. Of course, regional issues, including Ukraine, are also always discussed."

"TURKEY PROTECTS ITS SOVEREIGNTY"

Touching upon the issue of trade relations between Turkey and Russia, Peskov said, "Turkey is among the few countries that display a quite principled and independent stance on this matter. It continues to develop trade and economic cooperation with us."

Pointing out that some Western countries are pressuring Turkey on this issue, Peskov assessed, "Turkey is subjected to pressure from the Anglo-Saxons, often in an arrogant manner. They are trying to force Turkey to minimize, if not completely sever, its interactions with us, against its own interests. But Turkey protects its sovereignty."

Kremlin Foreign Policy Advisor Yury Ushakov stated in an announcement on January 29 that preparations were being made for Putin's visit to Turkey to take place in February.
