Kuşadası Mayor reminds Çerçioğlu of AKP's election promise! 'Don't put on a show'
Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel recalled the "50 percent water discount" promise made by the AKP's Aydın Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate during the 2024 elections, stating, "At that time, the local government and the national government were not from the same party, but now both wills are united. They no longer have any excuses regarding reducing costs. If you are sincere about this, implement a 70 percent discount; if not, don't put on a show."
Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel met with representatives of local, regional, and national newspapers, magazines, news agencies, and television channels operating throughout Aydın.
Deputy mayors, council members, and relevant department heads also attended the meeting, which was held as part of the 18th media gathering. Günel answered all questions posed by journalists one by one and shared detailed information regarding the projects implemented in the district.
"WE CAN ALSO TAKE THE DECISION THROUGH THE WILL OF THE COUNCIL"
Responding to questions about the water discount issue currently on the agenda in Aydın during the meeting, Günel argued that the discussions were being misdirected by Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu.
Günel stated, "The AKP's candidate in the 2024 elections had promised a 50 percent water discount. In other words, this was the promise of the current administration. At that time, the local government and the national government were not from the same party. However, now both wills are united. They no longer have any excuses regarding reducing costs. If you are sincere about this, implement a 70 percent discount; if not, don't put on a show. It is not even a requirement for the discount to pass through the Planning and Budget Commission. We can also take the decision through the will of the council."
"I LEAVE IT TO THE PEOPLE OF AYDIN"
When asked by a journalist about the remark "Don't you have any money?" made by Çerçioğlu during the Aydın Metropolitan Municipality's November Ordinary Council Meeting, Günel replied:
"The Aydın Metropolitan Municipality is legally obligated to support district municipalities. This is because it receives a 30 percent share from the state for district municipalities and a 10 percent share for ASKİ. In other words, it is not doing anyone a favor. Özlem Çerçioğlu comes to every council meeting with a request for borrowing. Should we respond in the same way? I leave such remarks, which are far from serious, to the people of Aydın."
