Lawyer mentioned by Özgür Özel turns out to be counsel for informants

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made striking allegations during his speech at the 44th rally he has held since March 19, which took place in Istanbul's Tuzla district. Bringing the ongoing investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) to the agenda, Özel made waves with the words, "An IMM exchange has been established."

In his speech at the rally, Özel stated that they possess records of dialogues between a lawyer, whom he identified by the initials M.Y., and a prosecutor whom he had previously criticized harshly for "placing a white Toros on his desk" in the past.

The CHP leader used the following expressions in his speech:

"A lawyer, a lawyer named M.Y. A lawyer, a lawyer going around to companies saying, 'This or that might happen to you. If you do this, I will save you,' contacting the families of some detainees, and even a detainee who is inside today having met with them in the past, withdrawing the money this lawyer demanded from the bank, the receipt is in hand, delivering it to the people sent by this lawyer at the bank branch, the date is clear, the time is clear, the receipt is clear, the camera footage is there.

And that these people took this money and brought it to the lawyer, that the lawyer explicitly mentioned a prosecutor's name saying, 'This person will come and give this statement on this day,' that what he said actually happened on the day he said it, that he made others do things with this proof, and not only that, I don't know if he even had these people talk to the prosecutor on the phone, even if briefly. I don't know, I have the evidence in my hand. I am submitting this to the Council of Judges and Prosecutors tomorrow."

IT TURNS OUT HE IS THE LAWYER FOR THE INFORMANTS

According to information obtained by Halk TV, it was learned that because the investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is defined as an "organized crime" case, the prosecutor's office had issued a decision that a lawyer could represent only one suspect. However, it emerged that the lawyer M.Y., whose name was disclosed by Özgür Özel at the rally, had established attorney-client relationships with more than one person, and a significant portion of these individuals are in the position of informants.

It was learned that among the clients of lawyer M.Y. is Naim Erol Özgüner, who provided the testimony that led to the arrest of IMM Chief of Staff Kadriye Kasapoğlu. Furthermore, it was stated that the same lawyer also undertook the defense of Cem Çelik, the financial advisor to Murat Gülibrahimoğlu, one of the names mentioned in the file.
