Letter to Biden and Harris from 99 doctors who served in Gaza: End this madness
In a letter to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris regarding the humanitarian situation they witnessed in the region, 99 medical professionals who volunteered in Gaza from the U.S. demanded an end to the support provided to Israel.
In a letter addressed to Biden and Harris, 99 U.S. doctors highlighted the infant deaths, epidemic diseases, and crimes against humanity that occurred as a result of Israeli attacks and blockades during their time providing volunteer medical services in Gaza.
The joint letter, signed by the doctors, stated: "Some of us are veterans and reservists. We are a multi-religious and multi-ethnic group. None of us support the horror committed on October 7 by Palestinian groups and individuals in Israel."
The letter stated that the number of people who have lost their lives in Gaza since October 7, 2023, is likely much higher than known, "likely exceeding 118,908, which corresponds to 5.4 percent of the Gaza population."
'OUR BOMBS ARE SLAUGHTERING THOUSANDS OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN'
The letter, which included the statement, "Our government must act immediately to prevent a catastrophe worse than what has befallen the people of Gaza and Israel," emphasized that a ceasefire must be achieved by cutting off military support to Israel and imposing an international arms embargo on Israel and all Palestinian armed groups.
The letter also included the words of trauma and critical care surgeon Dr. Feroze Sidhwa: "I have never seen such horrific injuries on such a massive scale with so few resources. Our bombs are slaughtering thousands of women and children."
In the letter, which the volunteer doctors also shared online, they expressed a desire to share "photographic evidence of life-threatening malnutrition," particularly in pediatric patients in Gaza, with Biden and Harris.
The joint letter from the 99 U.S. doctors conveyed the humanitarian situation in Gaza with impactful sentences.
The letter stated: "We saw malnourished mothers in Gaza feeding their low-birth-weight babies formula made with toxic water. We can never forget that the world has abandoned these innocent women and babies."
'GAZA WAS THE PLACE WHERE I HELD A BABY'S BRAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME'
The doctors emphasized that it was "shocking" that Israel was "constantly and repeatedly" evacuating the malnourished population in Gaza to areas "without even running water or toilets."
Orthopedic surgeon Mark Perlmutter, one of the volunteer doctors who signed the letter, stated: "Gaza was the place where I held a baby's brain for the first time."
Perlmutter emphasized that it was "impossible" for young children in Gaza to be shot by Israeli soldiers "accidentally or unknowingly" over the course of a year.
The letter continued: "We wish for you to hear the screams and cries that our conscience will not let us forget. We cannot understand why you continue to arm the country that is deliberately killing these children in mass numbers."
The doctors, who spent a total of 254 weeks in Gaza's largest hospitals and clinics, also shared the information that they "did not see any Palestinian militant activity" in the hospitals or other health facilities in Gaza.
The letter concluded with the following statements:
"Every day that we continue to supply Israel with weapons and ammunition is another day that women are torn apart by our bombs and children are killed by our bullets. President Biden and Vice President Harris, our request to you is this: End this madness immediately."
