Listening device found in MHP official's office: Prosecutor's office and police have intervened

During security checks conducted at the Tokat Municipality presidential building, a listening device was detected in the office where Mayor Mehmet Kemal Yazıcıoğlu receives citizens. Following the incident, the situation was reported to the relevant judicial authorities.

During checks carried out at the municipal building yesterday evening, it was determined that a listening device was present in the office located in the Canikli Mansion, which is used as the Tokat Municipality presidential building.

PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE AND POLICE HAVE INTERVENED

Following the detection of the listening device, a judicial investigation was launched under the coordination of the Tokat Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the Provincial Police Department's Cyber Crimes Branch. It was reported that the building was secured to ensure the investigations could be conducted properly and that technical work is ongoing.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM TOKAT MUNICIPALITY

The Tokat Municipality shared the statement regarding the matter with the public via its social media accounts. The statement made on behalf of the Municipality and Mayor Mehmet Kemal Yazıcıoğlu included the following:

“Dear Fellow Citizens,

A listening device was found in the office where our Mayor, Mr. Mehmet Kemal Yazıcıoğlu, receives our citizens at the Canikli Mansion, which is used as the Tokat Municipality presidential building, as a result of checks conducted by our security units yesterday evening.

Following the said discovery, the situation was immediately reported to the relevant judicial and police units, and the necessary judicial and technical processes were initiated under the coordination of the Tokat Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the Provincial Police Department's Cyber Crimes Branch. The building has been secured to ensure that the investigations can be carried out properly, and a detailed and meticulous study has been conducted in the relevant areas.

The process is being carried out with great sensitivity by the relevant institutions, and all developments regarding the matter are being evaluated within the legal framework and necessary steps are being taken.”

Following the incident, Tokat Mayor Mehmet Kemal Yazıcıoğlu also made a written statement to inform the public. Mayor Yazıcıoğlu's statement was conveyed as follows:

“Dear fellow citizens; while the disinformation and smear operations carried out against me and the Tokat Municipality in a planned manner have continued unabated since the first day we took office, today we have uncovered yet another act of lawlessness, lack of principle, and immorality.

As a result of our examinations, a listening device was found in the office at the Canikli Mansion, which is used as the Tokat Municipality presidential building.

With the detection of the listening device, the necessary crime scene investigation procedures were carried out, and an investigation has been initiated by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.”
