Lütfü Savaş: Syrians have started saying 'I won't rent houses to Turks'

Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lütfü Savaş met with farmers and citizens at public meetings held in the neighborhoods of Büyükdalyan, Paşaköy, Aşağıoba, Ovakent, and Maraşboğazı in the Antakya district.

Stating that water supply lines and infrastructure were severely damaged due to the earthquake and debris removal efforts, Mayor Savaş gave instructions to the relevant departments to resolve issues regarding water, roads, sewage, and children's playgrounds in the neighborhoods.

According to a report in Sözcü; Savaş stated that the uncertainty and security problems in Syria are negatively affecting Hatay's commercial life, and continued his remarks as follows;

"A SYRIAN REAL ESTATE AGENT CAN SAY 'I WON'T RENT HOUSES TO TURKS'"

“Peace and stability must be re-established in Syria. The increase in the refugee population poses a danger to the future of Hatay and the integrity of our country. Refugees have started to acquire significant amounts of real estate. In Reyhanlı, Hatay, a Syrian real estate agent can tell one of our citizens, 'I won't rent houses to Turks.' To avoid becoming a minority in our own land, we will protect our borders, Hatay, and its people under all circumstances, even if we go hungry, together.”

Responding to questions regarding the Greater Middle East Project, Mayor Savaş stated that it would not be right to create a new province from Hatay, and that they had submitted this situation as a report to the authorities and ensured that the danger awaiting the region was recognized.
