Lütfü Savaş, who filed the nullity lawsuit, at CHP Headquarters: 'I came to wish the new administration well'

Political activity continues within the Republican People's Party (CHP) following the court-ordered change in administration and the return of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to office. One day after Kılıçdaroğlu made a harsh statement regarding the legal process that led to the change in administration, former Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş, who filed the critical "absolute nullity" lawsuit, visited the CHP Headquarters.

"I DID NOT COME TO MEET WITH KEMAL BEY"

Responding to questions from members of the press at the entrance of the headquarters, Lütfü Savaş explained the purpose of his visit by saying "best wishes." Savaş stated, "I did not come to meet with Kemal Bey. I came to wish our newly appointed colleagues well."

Providing information regarding the legal process of the case, Savaş noted that the Özgür Özel administration had immediately appealed to the Court of Cassation following the appellate court's decision, adding, "We waited to see if there would be a consensus between the two sides. However, as of yesterday, we also submitted our appeal petition to the Court of Cassation."

"THE NULLITY DECISION RENDERS EXPULSIONS VOID"

Lütfü Savaş, who was expelled from the party during Özgür Özel's chairmanship, gave a clear answer to a question regarding his legal status. Arguing that thanks to the absolute nullity decision, all decisions taken during the Özel era are legally invalid, Savaş said the following:

"The nullity decision deems all decisions taken during that period as null and void. All of the approximately 1,800 colleagues who were expelled or whose memberships were terminated during this process are currently members of the party again. The Disciplinary Board of the nullity administration already reminded the Central Executive Board (MYK) of this situation in a letter."

Savaş also reiterated his view that a new party convention process cannot be initiated in the CHP until the current legal disputes and the litigation process are resolved.

COMMENT ON THE TENSION IN THE PARLIAMENTARY GROUP: "FAMILY"

Savaş was also asked about the tension that occurred yesterday at the Turkish Grand National Assembly during the CHP Group Meeting and the debates that grew after President Erdoğan left questions unanswered. Referring to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as "our Chairman," Savaş stated that the escalation of the chaotic scene in Parliament was prevented and made the following assessment:

“A chaotic scene could have emerged there. Our Chairman came and held the group meeting here to prevent this. This move means the following: 'We want to grow our family further in peace, and we want to see our friends from the previous administration under the roof of our party,' he said.”
