Mahir Polat, who underwent an angiogram, sent back to prison: 'I hope it won't be too late...'

It has been learned that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, who was taken ill and transferred to the hospital from Silivri Prison where he was being held as part of an investigation into İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, and who underwent an angiogram, has been sent back to prison. 

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat underwent an angiogram at Mehmet Akif Thoracic and Cardiovascular Diseases Hospital, where he was taken by ambulance from Silivri Prison.

Following the latest news regarding the health condition of Mahir Polat—who has previously overcome thyroid cancer, undergoes regular PET scans for cancer screening, uses a device for sleep apnea, and suffers from hypertension and diabetes—social media users, including politicians and celebrities, made numerous posts arguing that Polat should be released. Despite the calls, it was learned that Polat was sent back to prison after resting in the hospital for a while following the angiogram. 

Journalist Ersin Eroğlu, who shared a post on his social media account regarding the matter, said, "Mahir Polat is being sent back to prison. His transfer back to the hospital for a medical board report on whether he can remain in prison seems to be left until after the holiday. I hope it won't be too late."
