Mahir Polat's brother: 'He has claustrophobia, he cannot even get in an elevator, he is having serious problems'

The health condition of IBB Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, who was arrested and sent to prison as part of the 'urban consensus' investigation launched into the IBB, is steadily worsening. Polat, who suffers from numerous ailments including heart disease, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea, and is known to have previously survived cancer, has not been released despite the reactions.

Speaking to Nefes columnist Deniz Zeyrek about Polat's situation, his brother Cevdet Polat stated that Mahir Polat has claustrophobia, cannot even get in an elevator, and is now experiencing serious health problems in prison because of this.

Nefes columnist Deniz Zeyrek relayed the information provided by Cevdet Polat, whom he spoke with over the phone, as follows:

"I asked Cevdet about Mahir Polat's health condition. I knew about his heart problem, but Cevdet shared a detail I didn't know:

'Mahir has claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces). He cannot even get in an elevator. Now he is having serious problems in that confined space. His blood pressure issues also stem from this.'

Once, I had forced a claustrophobic relative of mine into an elevator. When the elevator shook slightly, they went berserk. They almost attacked me; I had a hard time calming them down."
