Mahmut Tanal's statement on presidential and party leadership candidacy: He evaluates the Justice Vigil
CHP's Mahmut Tanal, who set up a tent in front of the Ministry of Justice to protest the situation of young people imprisoned in Silivri but was forced to continue his protest standing after police intervention, has issued a statement regarding his protest that lasted until the first light of morning.
CHP Şanlıurfa MP Mahmut Tanal, who kept a vigil in front of the Ministry of Justice to protest the arrest decision regarding the young people and was joined by numerous supporters during his action that lasted until the first light of morning, made a post on his social media account regarding the vigil.
Stating that he woke up very late due to his action that lasted until the first light of morning and explaining that he received many messages regarding the protest he carried out, Tanal made the following post:
"GOOD MORNING…
First of all, I just woke up. I wish you all a good evening. I was only just able to open my social media. I saw so many messages, tweets, and comments.
I thank you all.
As you know, as a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey representing the will of the people, I raised a silent cry in front of the Ministry of Justice last night.
There were those who asked, “What good did it do, what changed, did you put on a show?”
I wish we lived in such a country that our children were released before the action ended, and Ekrem İmamoğlu was free. But we know that we are not a state of law. Unfortunately, we live in a system where justice and law do not function.
My goal was to create social awareness.
It was to stand in front of the Ministry of Justice and say, “We are here!”
It was to show that we are followers of injustices and lawlessness; that we will never give up on our children.
I wanted everyone in this country not to extinguish the hope within them.
I am a member of parliament. The right to immunity was not given to me as a privilege, but so that I could defend the rights of the people.
This is not a favor; it is a responsibility imposed on me by the Constitution.
If I remain silent today, I cannot answer to the children of this country tomorrow.
Some on social media have portrayed me as a presidential candidate, others as a party leadership candidate. I am only just able to read them all.
I say this with sincerity:
We have only one presidential candidate, and that is Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was imprisoned because he will be the President in the upcoming election.
We have only one party leader, and that is Mr. Özgür Özel, who was elected with a record number of votes at the convention.
There were also some criticisms: “Where are the other MPs, why didn't they support you?”
Political parties are an organization. Everyone in the organization has different responsibilities.
I am an MP who has come from within the actions for years.
Those who know me newly might not know, but the old ones know:
Wherever there is injustice, I have been there.
I spent the night in front of the Ministry of Energy for the power outages in Şanlıurfa.
I held a sit-in protest throughout the night in front of the Ministry of National Education for teachers who could not be appointed.
And know that all of these actions took place with the knowledge and consultation of our esteemed Party Leader and our Headquarters.
Our other MPs also have other duties they fulfill.
If we all act at the same time, with the same method, we cannot get effective results.
However, know that we are all working with all our might for you, for rights, law, and justice.
Our agenda is not positions.
Our agenda is our young people held inside.
The injustice deemed appropriate for Ekrem İmamoğlu.
Our citizens who cannot reach justice.
Millions struggling with poverty.
The legal order that has been destroyed.
If there is no legal security, if the judiciary has been politicized, if the Constitution is being violated; no other discussion is legitimate.
Without illuminating our path, we cannot talk about our future.
Positions and titles are details.
What is essential is to leave a peaceful future for the children of this country.
By the way, a few “The Ministry of Justice suits you” messages also slipped in.
It would be a lie to say I didn't like it.
But I am chasing a dream.
As a party aspiring to power, if this duty is deemed worthy of me during the Republican People's Party government, then that is the day my dreams will be completed.
Because I was born as the child of a poor family in Şanlıurfa.
I studied thanks to the Atatürk Republic, I became a legal professional with the efforts of my teachers, and I became a lawyer and an MP by studying in state schools opened with the taxes of this nation.
I owe this to the people.
And today I have only one dream:
To re-establish justice in this country.
But I am not chasing positions, I am chasing service.
If this party gave me the job of a street sweeper, I would do it again.
I am not saying this to be flowery.
Those who know me know that I have never refused or belittled any duty.
I have carried every duty given by this people with honor.
IN SHORT:
This action was neither the first nor will it be the last.
I hope it will be the last, I hope injustice will not be experienced again.
But know that
Wherever there is injustice, I will be there.
Because I have only one goal:
For this country to be bright, to be fair, to be in prosperity.
For people to be able to look at each other with smiling eyes.
I will continue to walk on this path.
