Major blow to organized crime groups across Turkey

As a result of comprehensive operations conducted by Gendarmerie teams in 24 provinces, 197 out of 313 individuals apprehended in raids targeting 32 different organized crime groups have been arrested.

Major blow to organized crime groups across Turkey

According to information released by the Ministry of Interior, a significant operation against criminal networks was carried out under the coordination of the Gendarmerie General Command's Departments of Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) and Cybercrime. In efforts conducted in coordination with Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, provincial gendarmerie commands targeted 32 separate criminal organizations with simultaneous raids.

The statement indicated that 197 of the 313 suspects taken into custody were arrested by the court, while 114 individuals were released under judicial control conditions. Proceedings regarding the other suspects are ongoing.

In the operations where different types of crimes came to the fore in various cities, it was reported that arms smuggling was identified in Erzurum and Manisa, while fraudulent activities conducted under the guise of "investment consulting" via social media were detected in Gaziantep, Balıkesir, Hatay, Muğla, Zonguldak, and Trabzon. It was noted that illegal betting and facilitating money transfers were the prominent crimes in Sakarya and Sinop.

Within the scope of the same operation, suspects involved in organized drug trafficking were apprehended in Antalya and Konya; those accused of migrant smuggling were caught in Kırklareli, Tekirdağ, Van, Aydın, and Iğdır; and individuals accused of obtaining financial gain from local businesses through pressure, assault, and threats were arrested in Mersin. Furthermore, it was reported that operations were conducted against groups defrauding public institutions and forging official documents in Elazığ, tobacco smuggling in Osmaniye, and loan sharking in Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Eskişehir, and Mardin.

It was emphasized that this large-scale operation conducted across Turkey is an important step toward reducing the impact of criminal organizations on society. It was stated that teams will continue to work with determination in the fight against crime.
