Man with bipolar disorder shoots his wife, then himself

The incident occurred around 17:00 in Dilekçibaşı Street, Yenişehir Neighborhood, Beyoğlu. According to information obtained, Mehmet Buğdaycı, who suffered from bipolar disorder, had an argument with his wife inside their home.

During the argument, Mehmet Buğdaycı shot his wife, Şerife Buğdaycı, in the head with a firearm and then shot himself in the head.

Neighbors who heard the gunshots notified the police, fire department, and medical teams.

Fire department teams arriving at the scene broke down the door accompanied by police. Medical teams intervened to assist the couple, who were lying on the ground in blood.

Examinations determined that Mehmet Buğdaycı and his wife, Şerife Buğdaycı, had lost their lives at the scene.

SHE HAD BEEN STAYING IN A WOMEN'S SHELTER AND RETURNED HOME

It was learned that there had been frequent arguments between Mehmet Buğdaycı and his wife for 8 years, and that he had subjected her to violence. It was alleged that Şerife Buğdaycı, who was subjected to violence by her husband, had stayed in a women's shelter and later returned to her home.

It was also alleged that Mehmet Buğdaycı had attempted suicide in recent months by trying to hang himself. The couple's three married daughters suffered nervous breakdowns in front of the house.

Crime scene investigation teams conducted examinations inside the house for a long time. The couple's bodies were taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute morgue by ambulance. Police teams have launched an investigation into the incident.

Neighborhood resident Ahmet Şahin said, "She was our neighbor, a sister we loved very much. She had a small dog; she would come and walk her dog here in the park. She was an animal lover."
