Mansur Yavaş's first statement after investigation permit: 'I don't know what they are trying to pull...'

The Ministry of Interior has granted permission for an investigation into Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş regarding allegations that certain municipal vehicles were used during an election rally held in Karabük in 2023.

In addition to Yavaş, the investigation process has also been opened for 8 municipal staff members.

A statement regarding the development came from Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş. Speaking to Sözcü newspaper columnist Saygı Öztürk, Yavaş used the following expressions:

"Thank God, I don't know what they are trying to pull with such forced things. The citizens see everything. Everyone knows how meticulous we are about these issues and that we try to set an example for everyone. We avoid using municipal vehicles as much as possible. Let alone using vehicles, we don't even take a salary. I didn't take a salary in 2009 when I was a candidate for Beypazarı Mayor either. So, you cannot accuse someone who is this meticulous with such nonsense. The public will, of course, evaluate this."

In response to the question, "Do these types of statements affect your work?", Yavaş replied:

"Such slanders will not stick to me. Citizens are already writing what is necessary under these news reports. Everyone knows that ministers go everywhere using public vehicles during elections; on the contrary, they are holding someone who does not do this accountable. It is strange. Anyway. I will organize a press conference and make a statement."

Stating that he will hold the aforementioned press conference today (April 15) at 11:00, Yavaş said, "I will reveal the latest investigation and how the ministry behaves in similar situations."
