Mansur Yavaş's 'resignation' statement

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş made important statements regarding the current agenda during a live broadcast.

Speaking on Sözcü TV, Yavaş reacted to the arrest of Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar.

Yavaş said, "There is no compensation for detention. Secondly, regarding these injustices and what has been done to our mayors recently, I would like to state this: If the real goal is just to block CHP mayors and prevent them from working, I am ready to resign from my post today."

Reacting harshly to the operations targeting CHP municipalities, Yavaş used the following expressions in his statement:

"Unfortunately, another link is being added to the injustices today. Mayor Zeydan has been arrested. We are truly very sad, and we wish him well. As far as we have heard from the press, it is extremely sad that he was arrested in this way for an incident from 10 years ago and based on the words of a slanderer, and that only their words were taken into account. Why would a person who has not tampered with evidence for 10 years and has no suspicion of flight be arrested?

Put him on trial, and let him defend himself comfortably. If he is convicted, everyone is ready to serve their sentence. We do not have immunity. There is a procedure like this: As mayors and public officials, when any crime is alleged against us, just like other public officials, civil inspectors come and investigate, and we exercise our legal rights and make our defense. They make one of two decisions. They say either there is a need for an investigation or there is not. All of these are being skipped. The Court of Accounts comes, and if there is public damage, it reports it to the prosecutor's office.

Just do not smear us. Just do not find a slanderer and play with our honor, dignity, and integrity. There is no point in being a mayor like this. These mayors cannot be arrested so easily. Almost all of them are people elected with large votes because they are reputable. For us, there is no difference between a shoebox and a baklava box. A thief is a thief. A thief has no party. They are a disgrace to the party. We cannot stand behind them. It is extremely wrong to smear all mayors because of one person.

I am truly very sad today. While we were struggling to defend the rights of our arrested friends together with Mayor Zeydan last week, unfortunately, Mayor Zeydan was arrested today. I am extremely sad. I want justice to be served as soon as possible."
