Mansur Yavaş responds to Yusuf Tekin on school cleaning: 'When our teams arrived at the school...'
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş responded to statements made by Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, who, referring to CHP-run municipalities, claimed: 'They clean 13 out of 2,300 schools for just one day, and then say, "I have cleaned all the schools in Ankara."'
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş responded via his social media account to the statement made by Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, who targeted CHP-run municipalities by saying, "They clean 13 out of 2,300 schools for just one day, and then say, 'I have cleaned all the schools in Ankara.'"
Yavaş shared the work carried out by the municipality to improve educational conditions for children and called for cooperation.
YAVAŞ EXPLAINS THE LATEST SITUATION IN SCHOOLS
Stating that the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality has faced obstacles in its school cleaning and support projects, which are carried out with the understanding that "there is not a single individual to be sacrificed in education," Mansur Yavaş explained the current situation.
Yavaş stated that they received cleaning requests from 533 schools and cleaned 83 of them, but that 450 schools canceled their cleaning requests.
''WHEN OUR TEAMS ARRIVED AT THE SCHOOLS, THE SCHOOLS WERE CLOSED''
"When our teams went to the schools, the doors were locked or they were turned away with the excuse that 'there is renovation work.' We also learned that messages were sent to school principals. For this reason, we were only able to perform cleaning over three weekends," he said.
Yavaş noted that they also faced obstacles in providing cleaning supplies to schools, stating, "Cleaning supply requests came from 1,147 schools, and we fulfilled the requests of 675. However, 472 schools canceled their requests," he said.
Mansur Yavaş also listed the services provided for education across Ankara since 2019. He said that 46 thousand tons of asphalt were laid in the city, and students were supported through projects such as stationery support, covering school bus fees, canteen support, and milk distribution.
Yavaş further emphasized that they have contributed billions of liras in total to education through projects such as milk support for children aged 2-5, clothing assistance for primary school students, holiday pocket money, and sports courses.
MESSAGE TO THE AKP: 'OUR GOAL IS NOT CONFLICT, BUT COOPERATION'
Addressing Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, Yavaş said, "We expect cooperation from you. Our goal is never to conflict or gain political advantage. Our children are the future of us all. Our efforts to build the future of our children will continue until the end."
Mayor Yavaş emphasized that they are working with the goal of ensuring equal opportunity in education and that they will continue their approach of social municipalism.
Mr. Minister @Yusuf__Tekin I think you have been given incomplete information.

We rolled up our sleeves by adopting the principle of the Great Leader Atatürk, "There is not a single individual to be sacrificed in education," and by saying "Clean School, Healthy Future."
Exactly 533 of our schools requested cleaning from us. 83 of them… https://t.co/EUqCmuk5MI
