Mansur Yavaş responds: 'Will there be an operation against Ankara too?'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has been arrested as part of a "corruption" investigation against him. In the "urban consensus" investigation conducted against İmamoğlu, the prosecutor's office decided to release him under judicial control.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş made statements regarding the arrest of İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Yavaş said, "I am glad that no trustee was appointed. We are ashamed of our legal system. Because during the trial, we saw that there was confidentiality, yet the statements and accusations were immediately leaked to the public. I hope Mayor Ekrem returns to his post."

'WHAT HAS BEEN DONE IS EVIL'

"We are ashamed of our legal system. Because during the trial, we saw that there was confidentiality, yet the statements and accusations were immediately leaked to the public. We saw that the lawyers could not access the files. This clearly reveals how political the process is. Publications are being made about this issue worldwide. The legal system in Turkey has begun to be questioned. As a result, 26 billion dollars have vanished into thin air. This has returned to us as more poverty. The money that was not given to minimum wage earners and retirees has been wasted due to this lawlessness.

What has been done today is evil. Foreign capital has started to leave. Our business people have started moving their headquarters abroad. The only solution to this is the rule of law. The result is clear. I am glad that no trustee was appointed. It seemed like there was work in that direction as well. I hope the detention will be lifted upon appeal. The presumption of innocence has been ignored. The government has reached a point where it puts everyone who speaks out into prison. For example, a Halk TV executive was acquitted after remaining inside for 28 days.

I hope Mayor Ekrem returns to his post."

WILL THERE BE AN OPERATION AGAINST ANKARA TOO?

Following his assessments regarding Ekrem İmamoğlu's arrest, Mansur Yavaş answered questions from members of the press. In response to a reporter's question, "Do you expect a similar operation against the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality?" Yavaş replied:

"We have nothing to fear. No CHP municipality avoids being tried or investigated. Dozens of inspectors have come to us so far. The issue is the setting up of a conspiracy. If they want to set up a conspiracy, they can do it to anyone."
