Mass fish deaths continue in İzmir

A large number of dead fish have washed ashore at the lake, which is located at an altitude of 1050 meters in the district. It was observed that no fishing is taking place in the lake following the fish deaths.

"IT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS"

Selahattin Aktaşoğlu, who lives in the Gölcük neighborhood, stated that a large number of common carp had washed ashore, saying, "Fish deaths have been seen for about 2 weeks."

Following the detection of common carp deaths in the lake on September 12, teams from the Ödemiş District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry had taken samples from the water and the dead fish.

In the report prepared, it was stated that no toxic substances were found in the lake and that a single factor did not cause the deaths, noting: "It was agreed that organic and inorganic fertilizer residues carried into the lake from the surrounding area due to rainfall, sudden changes in air and water temperature, and the decrease in the water volume of the lake due to low seasonal precipitation, and consequently the increase in pH and ammonium nitrate levels, may have been effective."
