Mass resignations on the horizon in CHP: 6 council members and 3 mayors may resign in Afyonkarahisar!

Claims that Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal will resign from the CHP and join the AKP continue to dominate the agenda.

Following these claims, 17 CHP council members in the Afyonkarahisar Municipality issued a statement titled "We are CHP members, we are not resigning."

It was learned that the signatures of 6 CHP council members were missing from the statement. The individuals in question are as follows:

Ömer Elçi, Derya Palalı, Bekir Lafçı, Gökhan Günal, Şevket Öner, and Yasin Yıldırım

Journalist İsmail Saymaz suggested that 6 council members, along with Burcu Köksal, could resign.

BALANCES IN THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL MAY SHIFT

In the current distribution of the Afyonkarahisar Municipal Council, the CHP has 23 members, and Mayor Burcu Köksal continues her duties under the CHP umbrella. The AKP has 12 members and the MHP has 2 members in the council.

However, according to claims circulating in political circles, if the 6 CHP council members who did not attend the last meeting, along with Burcu Köksal, switch to the AKP ranks, the majority in the council could change hands.

POSSIBLE NEW DISTRIBUTION

If these defections occur, the landscape in the municipal council will take the following shape:

CHP: 17 council members

AKP: 18 council members + Mayor

MHP: 2 council members

In this scenario, with Mayor Burcu Köksal also joining the AKP, the numerical superiority in the municipal administration would pass to the AKP.
