Massive protest in Adana following the arrest of Zeydan Karalar: Karalar's message read

The decision to arrest Adana Metropolitan Mayor Karalar was protested in front of the municipal building. Citizens of Adana chanted slogans in support of their mayor.

Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar, who was detained on the morning of Saturday, July 5, as part of operations targeting CHP-run municipalities, was brought to Istanbul. Following his detention, Karalar stated, "They are arresting both influential journalists and politicians." Karalar, who was referred to the criminal judgeship of peace by the prosecutor's office at the Istanbul Courthouse with a request for arrest, was ordered to be jailed.

Following the arrest decision, Karalar told the judge, "The Turkish judiciary will not accept this decision."

Residents of Adana gathered in front of the municipal building to protest the arrest decision. Citizens chanted slogans such as "Zeydan, a Mayor like Adana" and "There is no salvation alone, either all together or none of us," while carrying signs reading, "Adana cannot be imprisoned, the people of Adana do not bow down."

A message sent by Zeydan Karalar to the citizens in Adana was read aloud.

Karalar used the following expressions in his message:

"We are experiencing a legal absurdity. A staged scenario is being attempted to be implemented. I had said some time ago that influential figures in society and influential media would be silenced.

I am being tried in a case with which I have no connection. Both Adana and Turkey know me. Our conscience is clear, and there is no account we cannot give. Beautiful days will surely come. And we will meet again."
