The mayor had also been detained: New development in the operation against Kuşadası Municipality

The investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into allegations of 'bribery' and 'extortion' at Kuşadası Municipality continues.

Within the scope of the investigation, detention warrants were issued for Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel, Kuşadası Zoning and Urban Planning Manager Ahmet Taşkan, Kuşadası Building Control Manager Mustafa Burak Gündeş, municipal architect and urban planner Meral Celep, former Kuşadası Sports Club President and businessman Ferdi Zenginoğlu, and businessman Hüseyin Kabasakal, based on witness and complainant statements, suspect testimonies, information and documents in the investigation file, HTS records, and account movements examined as a result of reports prepared by the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK). Simultaneous operations were carried out in 3 provinces, namely Aydın, İzmir, and Antalya, within the framework of the investigation.

As a result of the operation, all 6 suspects were taken into custody.

The 6 suspects, including Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel, were referred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan after the completion of their procedures at the police station.
