Mayor's son flees police checkpoint: Found to be intoxicated
In Iğdır, a driver who fled a police checkpoint struck a motorcycle with his car, causing injury to a municipal worker. It was determined that the driver, who was found to have a blood alcohol level of 2.9 promille, was Şiyar Güneş, the son of Iğdır Mayor Mehmet Nuri Güneş.
A traffic accident occurred in Iğdır during the night hours when an intoxicated driver fleeing a police checkpoint struck a motorcycle.
The municipal worker operating the motorcycle was injured in the accident, which was captured on security cameras.
The accident took place in the vicinity of Zübeyde Hanım Boulevard and İrfan Street. According to allegations, while teams from the Iğdır Police Department were conducting a surprise inspection in the area, the driver of a car failed to comply with a stop order and began to flee.
The car, pursued by official police vehicles, failed to negotiate a turn on İrfan Street and struck a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. As a result of the impact, the motorcycle rider, municipal worker Yusuf Öztürk (55), was injured. Upon notification, medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
Öztürk, who received his initial intervention at the scene, was taken to Iğdır State Hospital. Öztürk, who was found to have fractures in his right foot and left kneecap, was later transferred to Erzurum.
It was determined that the car driver apprehended by police teams was Şiyar Güneş (28).
Güneş, who was found to have a blood alcohol level of 2.9 promille in the measurement taken, was issued an administrative fine of 640 thousand TL. It was also learned that the driver's license had been confiscated 3 times in the last 5 years.
On the other hand, it was revealed that Şiyar Güneş is the son of Iğdır Mayor Mehmet Nuri Güneş. While judicial proceedings have been initiated against the driver, who was taken into custody by police teams, it was reported that the investigation into the accident is ongoing.
