Mayors sign in support of Özgür Özel: One figure leaves the meeting

The 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice has ruled for the precautionary removal of Özgür Özel and the party administration from their duties in the 'absolute nullity' lawsuit regarding allegations of irregularities at the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress, and for former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and his administration to take over the duties.

This decision also caused tension within the party. While it was announced that a joint statement had been issued by the CHP metropolitan mayors, it emerged that a crisis had occurred during the mayors' meeting.

DID NOT SIGN

According to information reported by Barış Yarkadaş on tv100, Balıkesir Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Akın did not sign the declaration in which the CHP metropolitan mayors expressed their support for Özgür Özel. Stating that he would not sign the declaration, Akın left the meeting.

WHAT DID THE DECLARATION SAY?

The declaration published by the CHP metropolitan mayors is as follows: "Our Party, which founded the Republic, has successfully emerged from the difficult processes experienced in our country's democratic history to date. Our party will emerge from the process we are in today stronger, in unity and solidarity.

'We are aware that the real purpose of the 'Absolute Nullity' decision is to divide and fragment our Republican People's Party and to weaken our nation's hope for a change in government. As Republican People's Party Metropolitan Mayors; we stand by our party's elected Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel, and our party administration. At this stage; we announce to the public our view that, for the sake of our party's well-being and future, our extraordinary congress should be convened within 45 days at the latest.'
