Mehmet Murat Çalık has come out of surgery
Imprisoned Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, who underwent surgery due to suspected lymphoma, has come out of the operation.
Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, who was arrested as part of investigations into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), has undergone surgery.
Çalık came out of surgery around 12:00 PM.
Çalık's lawyer, Melih Koçhan, made a statement. Speaking to Cumhuriyet, Koçhan said, "He has just come out of surgery. He is currently sleeping because of the general anesthesia. His doctor has not seen him yet. There doesn't seem to be any problem for now."
CHP's presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is imprisoned at the Marmara Prison in Silivri, reacted on his social media account:
"What more are you waiting for to release Mehmet Murat Çalık? You arrested my brother, who has received cancer treatment twice, based on the false statements of people who are neck-deep in crime. You exiled him to a distant prison so he couldn't meet with his family and lawyers. You committed this cruelty even while knowing he had health problems. He lost 15 kilos inside, and the cancer he fought for years has returned to find him. The sole person responsible for Çalık losing his health is the mindset that punishes this brilliant person, who worked day and night to serve Beylikdüzü, by keeping him in pre-trial detention. If you have even a shred of conscience left, end this cruelty immediately."
