Melih Gökçek shares video claiming 'Assad's cousin was hanged in the square'

The Bashar al-Assad administration in Syria has officially come to an end. Following the capture of the capital, Damascus, by jihadist groups led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Syrian President Bashar al-Assad left the country and took refuge in Russia.

While the opposition celebrated the collapse of the 61-year-old Baath regime, AKP member Melih Gökçek drew attention with a video he shared on his social media account.

Gökçek claimed that Assad's cousin had been executed in Latakia.

It was learned that the video shared by Gökçek, who posted the footage without any blurring or censorship, was not even filmed in Syria.

According to Mynet, Turkmen Agency Editor-in-Chief Hüseyin Bozan stated in a post on his X account, 'This news is not true. Suleiman Hilal al-Assad was found dead, having been killed by gunfire. These images were not filmed in Syria.'
