Meral Akşener blocks Fatih Portakal: 'The democratic nature of people like Ms. Meral only goes this far'

After unfollowing Koray Aydın and Mehmet Tolga Akalın, who announced their candidacies for the party leadership at the April 27 IYI Party congress, IYI Party leader Meral Akşener has blocked journalist Fatih Portakal. Portakal reacted to Akşener, saying, "What difference does it make if she blocks me or not? It doesn't matter, but it's a very funny situation. We don't criticize you out of malice. But unfortunately, the democratic nature of people like Ms. Meral only goes this far."

Meral Akşener blocks Fatih Portakal: 'The democratic nature of people like Ms. Meral only goes this far'

The IYI Party, which decided to enter the local elections 'free and independent', did not achieve the result it expected on the evening of March 31.

IYI Party Chair Meral Akşener announced that she would not be a candidate, calling for an extraordinary elective congress.

Akşener unfollowed Mehmet Tolga Akalın, who announced his candidacy for the party leadership at the April 27 congress, and Rıdvan Uz, who supports him.

JOURNALISTS ALSO FELT THE IMPACT

Akşener's move on social media was not limited to IYI Party figures.

Journalist İsmail Saymaz, whom Akşener unfollowed, expressed his reaction by saying, "Meral Akşener has unfollowed me too. Even though I'm not even a candidate."

SHE BLOCKED FATİH PORTAKAL

Upon hearing that Akşener had unfollowed journalist İsmail Saymaz, Fatih Portakal showed his phone to the camera, saying, "For example, she unfollowed İsmail Saymaz this morning. I said, 'She surely hasn't done it to me.' She has blocked me too."

"A POLITICIAN CANNOT HOLD A GRUDGE"

Portakal spoke as follows regarding Akşener's social media move:

"There are those who hold grudges in politics, but I don't know why Ms. Meral is holding a grudge. She has unfollowed, removed, and blocked many people from her party. Actually, she is engaging in an unnecessary whim. A politician cannot hold a grudge. Unfollowing seems very absurd to me; it feels like a childish move."

"UNFORTUNATELY, HER DEMOCRATIC NATURE ONLY GOES THIS FAR"

"What difference does it make if she blocks me or not? It doesn't matter, but it's a very funny situation. Do you feel happy when you block someone? We don't criticize you out of malice. We aren't insulting you either. But unfortunately, the democratic nature of people like Ms. Meral only goes this far."
