Message on Syria from Erdoğan speaking in Egypt: 'As their neighbors and brothers...'
Speaking at the D-8 Summit held in Cairo, Egypt, AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a statement regarding the latest situation in Syria, saying, "As their neighbors and brothers, we are trying to contribute to the establishment of stability in Syria during this difficult process."
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the D-8 Summit Meeting held in Cairo.
In his speech there, Erdoğan addressed the latest developments in Syria, where the Bashar al-Assad administration has been toppled.
"The Syrian people need unity, solidarity, and to rapidly rebuild their war-weary country. As their neighbors and brothers, we are trying to contribute to the establishment of stability in Syria during this difficult process," said Erdoğan, who added the following:
"With the membership of Azerbaijan, which has made significant strides in recent years, in our organization, we are stronger today than we were yesterday.
With Egypt also ratifying the Preferential Trade Agreement, it will now be possible to implement the agreement within a much broader framework.
Unfortunately, in the face of increasing conflicts, crises, and wars, the institutions tasked with ensuring global security and stability are not fulfilling their responsibilities. I believe we need to use the existing capabilities of the D-8 more effectively in supporting SMEs.
We are following the recent developments in Syria very closely with an approach that prioritizes the interests of the Syrian people. The Syrian people need unity, solidarity, and to rapidly rebuild their war-weary country. As their neighbors and brothers, we are trying to contribute to the establishment of stability in Syria during this difficult process.
We emphasize at every opportunity the importance we attach to the restoration of Syria's territorial integrity and unity. Our most sincere expectation is the construction of a Syria cleared of terrorism where all religious, sectarian, and ethnic groups live side by side in peace. I believe that as D-8 members, we must stand by our Syrian brothers and sisters in this difficult struggle."
