Messages from AKP members to CHP's Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer revealed: 'Congratulations, thank you...'

Elected with a record number of votes in Istanbul's most populous district on October 30, CHP's Esenyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer was removed from office following a decision by the Ministry of Interior, detained, and subsequently sent to prison by the court after his police procedures were completed.

Can Aksoy, the Deputy Governor of Istanbul, was appointed in place of Ahmet Özer, who was arrested on charges of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization." Following Özer's arrest, government officials frequently made statements such as, "There is evidence. Everyone will see it when it comes out."

In response to the much-discussed 'evidence,' CHP Deputy Chairman Özgür Karabat made a post on social media.

In the post titled "Here are the Ahmet Özer documents that the AKP cannot explain," many documents were shared, ranging from a holiday greeting sent by the President to an official invitation from the AKP for Özer to share his views in parliament, and a thank-you letter sent to Ahmet Özer signed by Süleyman Soylu.

Özgür Karabat shared the documents while making the following statements on the matter:

HERE ARE THE AHMET ÖZER DOCUMENTS THAT THE AKP CANNOT EXPLAIN 1) The AKP and its partisan media are making new slanders every day against our Esenyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer, who was arrested unlawfully and without evidence. They say about Özer, "We will explain, everyone will be shocked when they see the documents."

"I am revealing the documents that the AKP cannot explain... AKP Amasya MP Mehmet Naci Bostancı, who chaired the solution process research commission established in Parliament on May 20, 2013, invited Ahmet Özer with an official letter."

"On February 26, 2013, AKP Deputy Chairman and Head of R&D Süleyman Soylu signed and sent this letter containing his thanks to Ahmet Özer for participating in the workshop titled 'Perspective on Ethnic Identity and Public Services: Perceptions-Attitudes'."

"The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey at the time, Cemil Çiçek, requested a representative from Toros University for the Constitutional Reconciliation Commission on January 11, 2012. This invitation was conveyed to Ahmet Özer."

"President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sent a Eid al-Adha greeting letter to Ahmet Özer during his time as Prime Minister."

"The Urbanization Council General Assembly, which was under the patronage of the Presidency and implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, was held at the Presidential Complex on November 8, 2017. Ahmet Özer took part in the front rows as a speaker in the panels there."

"YOU ARE A GOVERNMENT THAT HAS GONE OFF THE RAILS"

Following the documents he revealed regarding Ahmet Özer, CHP Deputy Chairman Özgür Karabat continued his statements as follows:

"You are a government that has gone so far off the rails that you now have the audacity to call a scientist, whom you hosted at the highest level of state office and whose ideas you valued, an organization member for your own political interests.

By upsetting the scales of justice and using the law as a weapon, you are the ones causing the real damage to the state. Do you think that academics, intellectuals, and scientists who see the conspiracy you have set up against Ahmet Özer will ever trust the state again?

You are destroying the right to vote and be elected. The citizens whose votes you have usurped no longer have any trust in the institutions of the state. The monstrosity you have created is trapping Turkey in deep problems, from the economy to sociological crises. Turn back while you are still close to this path."
