Alarm from Meteorology: Heavy rainfall and landslide warning for 6 provinces

The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) has issued a yellow-coded warning against heavy rainfall that will affect the northeastern parts of the country. Officials, who announced that heavy downpours are expected in the vicinity of Gümüşhane, Ardahan, Giresun, Trabzon, Rize, and Kars, called on citizens to be cautious against flash floods, inundations, and the risk of landslides, particularly in the inland parts of the Eastern Black Sea region.

According to the latest meteorological assessments, it is estimated that the intensity of the rainfall will increase in regions with rugged terrain along Turkey's northeastern line. It was reported that the rainfall could trigger the risk of flooding, especially on steep slopes and in riverbeds.

REGIONS AND PROVINCES AT RISK

In the statement made by the Meteorology department, the points where the heavy rainfall will be most effective were listed as follows:

Eastern Black Sea: The vicinity of Gümüşhane and the inland parts of Giresun, Trabzon, and Rize (high altitudes and highland roads).

Eastern Anatolia: The vicinity of Ardahan and the northern parts of Kars.

"ORANGE/YELLOW" ALARM AGAINST ACUTE DANGERS

It was stated that the rainfall, which will be seen along with sudden changes in air temperatures, may also bring storms and hail. The MGM listed the potential negative consequences as follows:

•Flash floods and inundations (especially underpasses and drainage lines in city centers)

•Landslides and soil slips (sloped roads in the inland parts of the Black Sea)

•Lightning strikes and local hail

•Disruptions in transportation and strong winds during rainfall

CALL FROM AUTHORITIES TO DRIVERS AND FARMERS

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and local governments have urged citizens living in areas near riverbeds and agricultural workers to be careful. Drivers traveling on routes connecting the Black Sea coastal road to the inland areas were also strongly reminded to adhere to speed limits and keep emergency lanes clear due to the risk of sudden landslides and reduced visibility.
