MHP's Feti Yıldız reacts to Abdulkadir Selvi over 'Osman Kavala': 'Convict propaganda...'

Stefan Schennach, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) rapporteur for Turkey, reiterated during his contacts in Turkey that the country must comply with ECHR rulings, particularly regarding Selahattin Demirtaş, the imprisoned former co-chair of the HDP, and Osman Kavala, who was imprisoned as part of the Gezi Park trial.

Reporting the details of this meeting, pro-government columnist Abdulkadir Selvi announced in his column that the Ministry of Justice had begun reviewing a request for 'Extraordinary Appeal' (Kanun Yararına Bozma) following an application by Kavala's lawyers.

REACTION FROM MHP'S YILDIZ TO SELVI

Following this news revealed by Selvi, MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız accused Selvi of 'engaging in convict propaganda' and wrote the following on his social media account:

“Mr. Selvi, the authority to file an 'Extraordinary Appeal' against decisions and judgments that have become final without undergoing appellate review lies with the Ministry of Justice. What is an 'Extraordinary Appeal,' which is one of the extraordinary legal remedies? Which criminal court decisions are subject to an 'Extraordinary Appeal'? What are the decisions that are not subject to an 'Extraordinary Appeal'? In what cases is the execution of a sentence suspended? If you seek help from a competent criminal lawyer before presenting the act of filing a petition to the public in an exaggerated manner, you will be acting with respect for the citizen's right to accurate information. Otherwise, you will do nothing more than engage in convict propaganda.”
