MHP's Yönter messaged the instigator before the Sinan Ateş murder: Expert report shows

The MHP traces in the Sinan Ateş murder trial continue to be a subject of debate. Most recently, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli canceled his party's parliamentary group meeting yesterday and held a press conference instead.

Opening a black-bound notebook, Devlet Bahçeli mentioned a list of 154 people, including journalists, academics, and politicians, who are being monitored by the MHP. Bahçeli stated, "Some circles have made very great injustices, slanders, lies, insults, and accusations against the MHP during 2024. The total number of these is 154 people. When the day comes, this file will be put into action. The action will be of a legal nature."

Following Devlet Bahçeli's statement, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel spoke at his party's group meeting in Parliament. Responding to Bahçeli, Özgür Özel pointed to MHP Deputy Chairmen İzzet Ulvi Yönter and Semih Yalçın, whose names have been mentioned in the Sinan Ateş murder case.

Özel, who is on the list of 154 people, said, "I would like to say something to Mr. Devlet. Those two, those two whom the entire organization is fed up with. Those two wrote a list of 154 names. Mr. Bahçeli, if there is going to be a reckoning, you should first reckon with your own conscience." Continuing to speak about the Sinan Ateş murder, Özel said, "Not one person went to his funeral. Not one person offered condolences. Not one person mentioned his name. Now, one of those two has been messaging the instigator constantly."

IT EMERGED THAT THEY MESSAGED

According to the report by 10Haber, one of the two names pointed out in Özgür Özel's speech was İzzet Ulvi Yönter. The instigator is Tolgahan Demirbaş, a former Ülkü Ocakları (Grey Wolves) executive who is being held in custody in the Sinan Ateş murder trial. And it has emerged that İzzet Ulvi Yönter messaged Demirbaş repeatedly via WhatsApp both before and after the murder.

According to the expert reports, a message was sent to the murder instigator Tolgahan Demirbaş from MHP Deputy Chairman İzzet Ulvi Yönter at 19:37, after the attack on Sinan Ateş. One minute after Yönter's message, a conversation took place between the detained suspect, Ülkü Ocakları Deputy Chairman Emre Yüksel, and Tolgahan Demirbaş. Olcay Kılavuz also messaged and spoke on the phone with Tolgahan Demirbaş multiple times after the Sinan Ateş murder.

THREE HOURS BEFORE THE MURDER

MHP's İzzet Ulvi Yönter also sent a message to the instigator Tolgahan Demirbaş at 10:38, approximately three hours before the 13:40 attack on Sinan Ateş.

The expert report, which was released following the examination of Tolgahan Demirbaş's phone, did not include the content of the message Yönter sent to Demirbaş three hours before the assassination.

In the Sinan Ateş investigation, 22 people were arrested, including the gunman Eray Özyağcı, the organizer of the act Doğukan Çep, former Ülkü Ocakları executives Tolgahan Demirbaş, Emre Yüksel, and lawyer Serdar Öktem, as well as three police officers. Out of a total of 39 people against whom proceedings were initiated regarding the incident, a lawsuit was filed against 22 of them.

It was alleged that high-level figures from the MHP and Ülkü Ocakları were among the 17 people whose files were separated. According to the allegations, İzzet Ulvi Yönter is also among these names.

Again according to the allegations, the call records of Yönter, who frequently communicated with Tolgahan Demirbaş before and after the Ateş murder, were added to the separated file.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Sinan Ateş was killed by gunfire from a motorcycle as he was leaving his office in Çukurambar, Ankara, on December 30, 2022. Selman Bozkurt, who was with Ateş, was wounded.

Within the scope of the investigation, 22 people have been arrested to date, including the gunman Eray Özyağcı, the organizer of the act Doğukan Çep, former Ülkü Ocakları executives Tolgahan Demirbaş, Emre Yüksel, and lawyer Serdar Öktem, as well as three police officers.

In the indictment prepared a year and a half after the murder, it was seen that Mustafa Ensar Aykal, who served as the Murder Bureau Chief of the Ankara Provincial Security Directorate's Public Order Branch, had queried Ateş's mobile phone number eight months before the incident at the request of Tolgahan Demirbaş.

In the 145-page indictment, it was alleged that the perpetrators Eray Özyağcı, Vedat Balkaya, and Suat Kurt acted in concert to carry out the act, while Doğukan Çep and Tolgahan Demirbaş were the instigators.
