MHP's Feti Yıldız, who targeted the Constitutional Court, makes a 'new constitution' push: 'In line with national values...'

MHP Deputy Chairman Yıldız stated that Turkey needs a constitutional amendment, noting that the constitution has been amended 19 times over time.

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız attended a program held at the Kırklareli Municipality Culture Hall as part of the 'Turkey Meetings Towards the Crescent, Together and As One'.

Speaking there, Yıldız said, "Turkey needs a brand new, civilian, broad-based constitution that embraces everyone, encompasses and grasps our national and spiritual values, and captures the realities of Turkey with its justifications."

"Both its systematics and its language have been corrupted by these amendments. I have been serving as a member of parliament for two terms, meaning I have taken my second oath. That is why this constitution must be changed. We have to explain to our surroundings and to society the 100-article constitution prepared by the Nationalist Movement Party for the 100th anniversary. Turkey needs a brand new, civilian, broad-based constitution that embraces everyone, encompasses and grasps our national and spiritual values, and captures the realities of Turkey with its justifications. Arguing that the institution of merit will be under constitutional guarantee with the constitution they have prepared, Yıldız said, “Even if we could just explain this, it would reveal what they understand from the nation and the will of the people. In the constitution we prepared, the vice president alongside the president will also come through elections, and the government program will be presented to the parliament. The institution of merit will be under constitutional guarantee. Again, the much-debated Constitutional Court is being given too many tasks; a new job description will be made for it.”

'THE MEMBERS OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT ARE NOT ENTIRELY LEGAL PROFESSIONALS'

Yıldız stated, “The members of the Constitutional Court are not entirely legal professionals. As a legal professional, I say that it is not even ridiculous, it is worse, for a court that is not entirely composed of legal professionals to serve as the Supreme Council (Yüce Divan). We want the Turkish Penal Code to be applied by those who are not legal professionals, we want the penal code to be applied, but the member who will conduct the trial is not a judge. Can such a thing happen? For months, we discussed the decision disputes between the Court of Cassation and the Constitutional Court on television. Our nation watched these. The Constitutional Court is not the biggest court; it is one of the high courts. The Court of Cassation is also a high court, and the Council of State is also a high court. There is no superior-subordinate relationship between them.”
