Minister Bak shares striking figures regarding GSB dormitories and cafeterias

Minister of Youth and Sports Bak answered questions from members of parliament at the TBMM Planning and Budget Committee, where the 2024 budget was discussed.

Stating that projects with a bed capacity of 40 thousand 578 are currently underway in 30 projects across 23 provinces, and that 19 projects are at the tender stage, the Minister said the following:

“There are 38 projects in 30 provinces that are at the project stage and which we aim to build rapidly. These will add approximately 44 thousand beds. This is a project with a total of 100 thousand beds, including 24 thousand here.

These are the ones that are ongoing, at the tender stage, and in the project phase. We are planning and intending to complete these rapidly. In this regard, our Presidency and the Budget Directorate are providing us with very serious support, especially regarding the construction of dormitories.

We state that this will continue to increase. As a policy, we desire for our young people, the youth coming to university, to reside peacefully in these dormitories. As I mentioned, this is in our investment program and we are following it rapidly.

I will be a very close follower of this as well. We have discussed this with our colleagues. While doing these, we especially choose university campuses in a very short time. Why are university campuses chosen? The advantage of university campuses is to ensure that the student reaches their school and returns from school in as short a time as possible, that is, to gain an important aspect that has time value; secondly, in terms of security, there is both the security of the university and our dormitory security. Therefore, we are looking for solutions that will provide them with an advantage in this regard.

For this, we have negotiations with our universities. We requested space from our universities. We have contracts regarding them, and as I just mentioned, we have dormitories under construction. Therefore, we are making efforts to ensure that this dormitory problem is solved in conditions where our students have more suitable and stronger social structures. We are in a much better position than our conditions in the previous period.

We will strive to move it to a better point. For this, as a ministry, our Minister of Finance and the Head of the Strategy Directorate are also supporting us in this regard.

At this point, we will continue our steps to complete this capacity in the upcoming academic term and will follow it closely.

As you said, this is an important issue. Our budget for our investments has now reached 172 billion. But besides this, we have extra demands for dormitories, which are such important investments, from the supplementary budget, and they are supporting us in this regard.”

EMPHASIS ON COMBATING ADDICTION

Stating that the ministry is fighting in different areas regarding the fight against addiction, Bak said, “Our ministry has a preventive function in the fight against addiction.

At this point, we touch our youth with everything from amateur sports clubs to our youth centers and many different activities we carry out. I tell everyone to take their children and bring them to sports facilities. Let us be more successful in these drug-related struggles with them.

Figures are being mentioned, but that is not the issue. Within our entire budget, there is a part related to the fight against addiction in all of the investments we make, especially regarding sports services,” he said.

"AGREEMENTS WITH 47 OPERATORS PROVIDING FOOD TO DORMITORIES HAVE BEEN TERMINATED"

Stating that complaints regarding food served in dormitories are being heard and that action has been taken, Minister Bak said, “We are rapidly carrying out inspections of the operators here regarding these.

In the last year, regarding the operators
