Minister Çiftçi announces: 7-stage security model coming following school attacks
The approach to security in schools is undergoing a complete transformation. A new 7-stage model is being implemented, ranging from physical measures and psychological monitoring to cyber oversight and inter-institutional data sharing.
Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi has shared with the public the security measures being introduced in response to school attacks. Stating that a new security concept will be adopted following the incidents in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, Çiftçi announced that a multi-layered system based on inter-institutional coordination will be established in schools.
MULTI-LAYERED SECURITY APPROACH BEING IMPLEMENTED
The model the Ministry is working on covers a wide area, from risk analysis to physical security, and from psychological monitoring to digital oversight. While security around schools will be increased, the risks students face in both social and digital environments will also be monitored. Furthermore, the process is intended to be managed holistically through data sharing between different ministries.
7-STAGE SECURITY MODEL
According to TRT Haber, a 7-stage security model will be created in schools under Çiftçi's instruction:
1- Risk and threat analyses in schools will be renewed. A security board consisting of an educator, a police station chief, and a social services expert will be formed. Threat definitions will be redefined, and the existing system will be completely overhauled.
2- The Ministry of Interior will increase physical security measures, and security and inspections at school entrances, exits, and surroundings will be tightened.
3- An early warning system will be established between the school and the nearest police station, allowing for rapid intervention in potential risks.
4- Community health centers will be involved. Students with psychological and psychiatric disorders will be monitored regularly through community health centers.
5- Children at risk will be subject to cyber monitoring. Virtual patrol teams affiliated with the police will closely monitor children on social media and in gaming groups to protect them against traps.
6- Ministries will work in coordination. Data sharing will be provided between the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
7- Training and awareness activities will be conducted for emergency situations, and conferences and seminars will be organized in schools.
