Minister Fidan's statement on the SDF: 'If they are sincere, they must announce its dissolution'

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan attended the Syria meeting held in Riyadh with the participation of Foreign Ministers from Saudi Arabia, Syria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from the Arab League.

According to information obtained from Ministry of Foreign Affairs sources, Fidan stated at the Syria meeting held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, that the presence of Ahmed al-Shaibani, the Foreign Minister of the new administration in Syria, was a "turning point and a historic moment."

Stating that as regional countries, they bear the responsibility of guiding developments in Syria in the right direction, Fidan noted that Syria's territorial integrity, unity, and sovereignty continue to be the fundamental principles upon which all their efforts are built.

Fidan said, "In this critical period, we must act as a balancing force by carefully striking a balance between the expectations of the international community and the realities faced by the new administration in Syria."

SDF STATEMENT

Touching upon the fact that the preservation of Syria's territorial integrity and unity must remain the main focus, Fidan stated, "If the 'SDF' is sincere in its efforts to integrate with the central administration, it must announce its dissolution."

Fidan noted the following:

"We can work together to strengthen the new administration's capacity to effectively combat DAESH. As Turkey, we are ready to do our part to facilitate the difficult path ahead for the Syrian people."
