Minister Fidan's statement on Turkish foreign policy

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira. Following the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers held a joint press conference.

In his statement here, Fidan said that Turkish foreign policy looks at the world and events from a 360-degree perspective and that they must continue to do so.

"BRAZIL IS OUR LARGEST TRADING PARTNER"

Stating that they agreed on developing political, economic, and cultural relations between the two countries during the meeting, Minister Fidan said, “Brazil is our largest trading partner in Latin America. Our trade volume reached 5 billion dollars as of last year.

We aim to increase this further in a balanced way. I also discussed with my dear friend how we can increase mutual investments. At the same time, we discussed the issue of tourism.

Last year, 103 thousand Brazilian tourists visited our country. We are in agreement on increasing this number further and also on cooperating in the tourism sector,” he said.

“NETANYAHU GOVERNMENT CONTINUES ITS MASSACRE”

Stating that they also held consultations on global developments during his meeting with the visiting Minister Vieira, Fidan said, “We observed that our countries' approaches overlap on many issues. We share largely the same sensitivities with Brazil regarding Gaza as well.

We appreciate Brazil's stance on the Israel-Palestine issue. The number of murdered Palestinians has exceeded 36 thousand. Most of them consist of women and children. Since October 7, more than a hundred journalists have been killed. Over 200 humanitarian aid workers from various countries have been massacred.

Countries that support Israel unconditionally continue to ignore this massacre. Not content with that, they continue to send weapons and ammunition to Israel without pause. The situation is crystal clear; the fundamentalist Netanyahu government is continuing its systematic massacre. As we clearly emphasized at the meeting we held in Istanbul as foreign ministers of the D-8 countries, we will not remain spectators to the brutality in Gaza,” he said.

“LOOKS AT THE WORLD AND EVENTS FROM A 360-DEGREE PERSPECTIVE”

Speaking about his busy schedule over the last 2 weeks, Fidan said, “When you look at the pattern of these, a reality actually emerges. That is this; Turkish foreign policy looks at the world and events from a 360-degree perspective, and we must continue to do so.

We need to keep our finger on the pulse of political, economic, and social developments in every corner of the world. We need to conduct our foreign relations as an actor capable of influencing the international agenda and the global system.

On the other hand, time is precious, so we attach importance to taking part in critical platforms from one continent to another and establishing a dynamic interaction that can influence the global agenda,” he stated.

HEADING TO NORTH MACEDONIA AND ITALY

Providing information about the content of the meetings he held during his visit traffic in the last few weeks, Minister Fidan spoke as follows about the visits he will make and the programs he will attend in the near future:

“Tomorrow, we will go to Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia. We will attend the South-East European Cooperation Process Summit there, and the next day we will accompany our President at the G7 meeting to be held in Italy.

We will convey our views on international issues and, as always, we will bring the problems of our Palestinian brothers and sisters to the agenda there as well. We will represent our country at the Ukraine Peace Summit in Switzerland on the eve of the holiday and the first day of Eid al-Adha.

We will share our views on achieving a just peace. There is truly very serious work and effort behind each of the visits we have made from Europe to Asia, from the Middle East to the Balkans. My colleagues are working day and night with incredible sacrifice and showing great attention. Representing our country and our nation in this busy agenda also gives us additional honor.”
