Minister Gürlek announces: Massive operation against cybercrime and illegal betting gangs

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced the details of the "dawn operations" carried out against criminal groups that threaten citizens' digital assets and public order in a statement made via his social media account. Within the scope of the operations conducted under the coordination of the Istanbul Anatolian and Nevşehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, a heavy blow was dealt to cyber fraud and illegal virtual betting networks.

60 BILLION TL HEIST: SIMULTANEOUS RAIDS IN 27 PROVINCES

In the first investigation conducted centered in Istanbul, cybercrime units pressed the button in 27 provinces. In the operation carried out against 114 suspects, it was determined that cyber fraudsters caused a total loss of 600 million TL to 269 victims. Minister Gürlek stated that the transaction volume detected in the accounts managed by the network was staggering, announcing that a traffic of exactly 60 billion TL had been recorded. Seizure and trusteeship procedures for the assets worth billions of liras in question were initiated without delay.

CRYPTO TRAFFIC OF VIRTUAL BETTING NETWORK DECIPHERED

The second leg of the operation was expanded to cover 28 provinces under the coordination of the Nevşehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Simultaneous raids were carried out on 120 separate addresses targeting an illegal virtual betting gang that used citizens' bank and crypto accounts as fronts. In this operation, which targeted 107 suspects, it was deciphered that the gang had reached a monetary volume of 10 billion TL.

In his assessment regarding the operations, Minister Gürlek used the expressions, "We have dealt a major blow to criminal groups that set their sights on the rights of our citizens and the public," and gave the message that the fight against cybercrime will continue with determination.
