Minister Tunç's statement on Engin Polat's release: 'It will ease the public conscience'

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç answered questions from journalists during a live broadcast.

Making important statements regarding the current agenda, Minister Tunç also spoke about the release of social media influencer Engin Polat. 

Minister Tunç's statements are as follows:

-(The release of Engin and Dilan Polat) It is the judges who will make the necessary decisions. Let us leave it to the judiciary to make the most accurate decision, and it will also ease the public conscience. Let us trust the judiciary on this matter. 

-(The controversy over 'wagging a finger' at the judiciary) We state that the judiciary is impartial and independent. There are sanctions for influencing those who perform their judicial duties. People in these positions must act more responsibly. Wagging a finger and threatening the judiciary—these are scenes from the old Turkey. We have all experienced the situation the judiciary was in when it was under a tutelary mindset. Today, our judiciary is more independent than ever.

It is a misfortune for Özgür Özel to stand by those who should be saying that one does not wag a finger at the judiciary. We see that they have failed to grasp that the tutelary judicial order is not in effect today. We can say that those who want to turn this process into a grievance and seek political gain are harboring vain expectations.

-(The soldiers' oath with swords) Our army, in particular, must not be worn down. The army has gone through many trials; it is the apple of our eye. Our President has stated that behaviors that would wear down the military are not correct. After you have taken the oath, repeating an oath that has been abolished creates a problem.
