Ministers' visits in response to boycott continue: Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin visits boycotted store

The boycott debates, which began with the call of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, have become one of the hottest agenda items in politics. Following the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, millions of people took to the streets to organize protest actions. Opposition leader Özel called for a boycott of certain brands during this process. The response from the government front was not delayed. AKP ministers and deputies paid support visits to the brands on the boycott list.

MINISTER TEKIN'S D&R VISIT

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, along with AKP deputies Orhan Yeğin, Murat Alparslan, Zeynep Yıldız, and Kurtcan Çelebi, went to a D&R store in Ankara and did some shopping. Making statements during the visit, Minister Tekin criticized the CHP's boycott call, saying, "Özgür Özel needs to put more effort into political leadership. He is displaying an attitude that is very far from understanding the concepts of democracy and the rule of law."

Defending that the brands on the boycott list are domestic and national, Tekin stated, "I have difficulty understanding what logic they are acting with and what they are basing such a list on. They are harming Turkey's brand value."

AKP DEPUTIES HAD MET AT ESPRESSOLAB

The government front's moves against the boycott calls were not limited to D&R. Previously, AKP deputies and ministers had also shown their support by going to the coffee chain Espressolab, which is on the CHP's boycott list. AKP's Mustafa Varank, former Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül, Minister of Energy Alparslan Bayraktar, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan had gathered at Espressolab to drink coffee.
