Ministry hits the field before the holiday: Price tag inspections in markets
Aiming to prevent opportunism and consumer grievances ahead of Eid al-Adha, the Ankara Provincial Directorate of Trade teams have intensified their inspections at chain markets. Shelf and checkout prices are being examined one by one, particularly in candy, chocolate, and dessert aisles.
Ankara Provincial Directorate of Trade teams have hit the field ahead of the approaching Eid al-Adha to protect the economic rights of consumers. Acting in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Trade, the teams have pressed the button on inspections to prevent potential grievances and exorbitant price hikes during holiday shopping. In this context, product groups that see high demand, especially during the holiday period, have been placed under the microscope in chain markets across Ankara.
SHELF AND CHECKOUT PRICES ARE BEING COMPARED ONE BY ONE
During the inspections carried out in chain markets, candy, chocolate, and dessert aisles—which are staples of the holiday—were subjected to strict controls alongside basic food products. While teams examined the compliance of price tags with regulations, they focused on one of the most frequently complained-about issues: "discrepancies between shelf and checkout prices." Randomly selected products were scanned at the checkout to perform receipt checks, and label irregularities that could cause consumer confusion in the aisles were inspected.
INSPECTIONS WILL CONTINUE UNINTERRUPTED THROUGHOUT THE HOLIDAY
In a statement regarding the matter, the Ankara Provincial Directorate of Trade indicated that field work will continue without interruption to ensure that citizens can conduct their holiday shopping in a safe and transparent environment. The statement included the following: "In order to prevent opportunistic approaches ahead of the approaching Eid al-Adha, we are meticulously continuing our inspections in fresh fruit and vegetable wholesale markets, intercity bus terminals, and businesses selling products such as candy, chocolate, and desserts, in line with the instructions of our Ministry."
