Ministry of National Defense announces: Damascus administration requested support from Turkey

Ministry of National Defense (MSB) sources announced that the interim Damascus administration has requested support from Turkey. The briefing was held during a press conference as part of the "IDEF 2025 17th International Defense Industry Fair" held at the Istanbul Expo Center.

According to MSB sources, the Damascus administration made an official request to Ankara following recent developments, particularly in the As-Suwayda region. The deployment of HTS forces to the area following the tension that began between Arab Bedouins and Druze further escalated the clashes. Damascus conveyed that it needs Turkey's support to bring this crisis under control.

MSB sources pointed out that Israel's attacks on Damascus in recent weeks have also increased sensitivity in the region. It was stated that ties between the Druze community and the Damascus administration have become even more strained, particularly in the southern city of As-Suwayda, coinciding with Israeli bombardments.

'SUPPORT REQUESTED WITHIN THE SCOPE OF COMBATING TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS'

The following statements were included in the briefing provided by MSB sources:

"The Syrian administration has officially requested support from Turkey within the scope of strengthening its defense capacity and combating all terrorist organizations, primarily ISIS. In line with this request, our efforts to provide training, consultancy, and technical support to increase Syria's defense capacity are ongoing. Turkey's primary goal is to support Syria's political unity and territorial integrity, and to lead efforts aimed at ensuring lasting peace in the region."

STATEMENT REGARDING SDF INTEGRATION

"As the Ministry of National Defense, we have stated many times before that protecting Syria's territorial integrity and sovereign rights is indispensable for our country and regional stability. In this context, seeing the reflections on the ground of the issues agreed upon between the Syrian Government and the terrorist organization SDF on March 10 as soon as possible will contribute to said stability. The terrorist organization SDF must concretely demonstrate that it complies with the agreement it made with the Damascus government. Developments regarding the matter are being closely monitored together with our relevant institutions."
