Missile fragment that entered our border shot down: Second statement comes from the Directorate of Communications

After a ballistic missile fired by Iran crossed Iraqi and Syrian airspace and headed toward Turkey, the threat in question was effectively neutralized over the skies of Hatay.

Assessments made by officials noted that a fragment belonging to the missile fell into an open area in the Dörtyol district of Hatay. There were no injuries or material damage in the incident.

In a statement made via his social media account, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran drew attention to Turkey's determination and capacity regarding its security. Duran stated, "Our will and capacity to ensure the security of our country and our beloved nation are at the highest level. Every necessary step will be taken without hesitation for the defense of our lands and our airspace. Necessary responses will be given within the framework of international law to any hostile attitudes that may be encountered. Consultation and cooperation with NATO and our allies will continue during this process," he said.

The statement underlined that all relevant state institutions have acted in a coordinated manner since the beginning of the incident.

Duran also did not neglect to warn all parties to act constructively and refrain from attitudes that could expand conflicts due to the increasing tension in the region.

"It is of great importance that the parties act with a sense of responsibility. During this process, we specifically request our media organizations and social media users to act more sensitively; and not to rely on news and posts that are in need of verification, could cause public panic, and may contain disinformation. It is important to be careful against information and posts other than those made by our official authorities. As our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasizes on every occasion, Turkey is conducting an intensive diplomatic effort for peace, stability, and dialogue to prevail in the region.

Under the leadership of our President, our country is taking an active role in preventing the escalation of tension, protecting civilians, and resolving problems through peaceful means on the basis of international law. The unity, togetherness, and solidarity we will display as a nation in the face of such developments are our greatest strength. Our state is on duty with all its institutions. Turkey will continue to fulfill its responsibility with a constructive understanding to lower the tension in the region and resolve problems through peaceful means."
