MIT-backed dawn operation in Izmir: 5 PKK suspects detained
In an MIT-backed dawn operation conducted by gendarmerie teams against the PKK terrorist organization in Izmir, 5 suspects were detained. It was also determined that the suspects are Syrian nationals.
The Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the PKK terrorist organization, initiating efforts to apprehend 5 Syrian nationals identified as being members of the terrorist organization and conducting propaganda for the group on social media.
Teams from the Izmir Provincial Gendarmerie Command's Counter-Terrorism (TEM) and Intelligence Branch Directorate initiated an operation supported by the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) to apprehend the suspects in the early morning hours. During the dawn operation carried out at designated addresses across the province at 07:15, the 5 target suspects were apprehended.
The 5 detained Syrian nationals were taken to the gendarmerie station for questioning.
