Moment of silence for Atatürk on the 15 July Martyrs Bridge
Life came to a standstill at 09:05 on the 15 July Martyrs Bridge; as sirens wailed, citizens on the bridge stood in silence at the exact moment Atatürk was bid farewell to eternity.
Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, was commemorated with ceremonies held across the country on the 87th anniversary of his passing. As in many parts of the country, citizens in Istanbul once again demonstrated their devotion to Atatürk.

TIME STOOD STILL ON THE BRIDGE
Drivers traveling on the 15 July Martyrs Bridge in the morning stopped their vehicles where they were at 09:05 as the sirens sounded, and stood in a moment of silence.

During those moments, a deep silence prevailed on and around the bridge.
